Kings River Geography & Recreation

The Kings River is an un-dammed, free-flowing Ozark mountain stream flowing northward through Madison and Carroll counties in Northwest Arkansas before entering Table Rock Lake in Missouri. Renowned for its towering limestone bluffs, crystalline gravel bars, and world-class smallmouth bass fishery, the Kings River offers unforgettable floating, fishing, and hiking.

Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission Sites

The Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission (ANHC) protects rare species and exceptional natural communities across the state. In the upper Kings River watershed in Madison County, visitors can experience two protected natural heritage areas:

  • Kings River Falls Natural Area: A scenic cascading waterfall and protected mountain stream corridor with virgin hardwoods and rare Ozark flora.
  • Sweden Creek Falls Natural Area: An 80-foot plunging waterfall surrounded by towering sandstone bluffs and rich fern-covered ravines.
