Our History

Membership water quality concerns evolved into the beginnings of the process to establish the Kings River Watershed Partnership in late 2001. A small steering committee formed out of a public meeting held in Kingston, Madison County, Arkansas. This committee worked steadily toward the establishment of the non-profit organization.

The Kings River Watershed Partnership (KRWP) was formally formed as a broad-based, non-regulatory group in 2004 to address water quality and resource issues in the Kings River watershed. In 2005 the KRWP gained 501(c)(3) status and made progress toward developing active sub-watershed groups on the Upper Kings River, Osage Creek, and Keels Creek.

In 2006 KRWP was awarded a 319 grant from the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) to develop a non-regulatory, sub-watershed based Watershed Management Plan for the Kings River watershed. The grant provided resources to conduct baseline water testing on the Kings River and its tributaries, establish volunteer monitoring, and conduct public outreach and education.
