Streambank Restoration

Streambank Restoration

Mill Branch Creek — Streambank Restoration Project

Mill Branch Creek is an urban tributary running through Berryville, Arkansas. Over decades, steep grades, unmitigated storm runoff, and loss of streamside root systems caused severe downcutting and streambank collapse, sending tons of sediment downstream into Osage Creek and the Kings River.

To demonstrate naturalized stream stabilization, KRWP collaborated with the City of Berryville Parks and Recreation (directed by Joe Scott), Sean Saunders of the AGFC Stream Team, and Jimmy Jones Excavation to reconstruct the creek channel using engineered rock weirs, energy-dissipating drop pools, and native riparian buffer plantings.
